Council of Governors, World Bank and Ministry of Agriculture to come up with a system to improve fish farming in Counties
Council of Governors together with World Bank and the Ministry of Agriculture are developing a new system to improve fish farming across the Counties. The system whose goal is to improve the livelihoods of County citizens living along the Coast, will collect real time information, data, support fisheries management, administration, monitoring control and surveillance to minimize illegal activities. The county governments will be directly involved in revenue collection and investment opportunities. The priority area will be to build capacity for coastal communities and empower the locals socially and economically. The project will also focus on development of infrastructure in the Counties, where the project will be implemented. This will help to open up markets for the goods and products to reach the market in time and avoid the post-harvest losses. The project is still at its initial stage with a committee set up to research and finalize the proposal, which will be presented to the World Bank for funding. Inshore fisheries will also be improved through the implementation of priority fisheries management plans and strengthen of co-management arrangements.
