The County Government of Meru is seeking partnerships with various organizations that will speed up development in the County.
In the last one month, Governor Kiraitu Murungi has held a series of meetings with key development partners who wish to work together with devolved governments.
Particularly, the Governor has met the European Union (EU) Ambassador to Kenya Mr Stefano A Dejak. During the meeting, Kiraitu sought support on key areas like agriculture, roads, water, renewable energy and environmental conservation. The Governor also urged European Union to help cushion Khat (Miraa) farmers suffering after the Europe ban.
The Governor also held talks with Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Country Representative Gabriel Rugalema. During the meeting, Kiraitu discussed technical assistance to Meru farmers towards achieving food security. He noted that the upcoming Meru Youth Service will be a key pedestal at empowering the youth. Rugalema, at the request of Governor Kiraitu, said he will initiate a programme to encourage the youth to take up agriculture. Governor Kiraitu Murungi and the Kenya Red Cross Society Secretary General Abbas Gullet have also signed a key agreement to better the lives of Meru
