Taita Taveta County Deputy Governor has called challenged education stakeholders to consider boosting technical and vocational training as they review primary and secondary education curriculums. Speaking during a stakeholder consultative meeting in Sarova Panafrica H.E Majala Mlagui lauded this move for it will streamline the education system to offer the much needed technical knowledge among trainees. "Our technical and vocational training curricula should be matched up with the growing sectors of the economy to ensure we have the relevant skills locally available for all the industries," said the industrial minded administrator.
The Deputy Governor said this will enhance skill mastery, employee engagement which will empower individual trainees. According to the economic survey 2014, majority of vocational training centers are not paying attention to contributing factors or what is required in the economic growth of the country. She observed that it is high time stakeholders throw a critical eye at skill requirements to ensure that trainees are adequately prepared to supporting the growing sectors. If fully enhanced, Vocational Education and Training (VET) will play a central role in equipping millions of young people with the required skills for the job market or alternatively for self-employment.
