Turkana County VacThere is ongoing vaccination and support treatment of livestock across the county. This activity is jointly being undertaken by Turkana County Government (TCG) and Turkana Pastoralist Development Organisation (TUPADO). So far the exercise has been conducted in parts of Turkana West and Turkana North with areas like Songot, Lokichogio and Oropoi having been handled. Turkana County is a pastoral community with livestock being a major source of food and income. There has always been need for the community to be given support in managing their livestock which mainly comprise of sheep and goats. Apart from the two, the community also rears cattle camels and donkeys. Routine vaccination and treatment is one of the exercise that the County veterinary department engages in as away of preventing lose of livestock through diseases. Vaccination helps prevent spread of diseases among the animals by reducing chances of disease infections. Also if the sick animals are treated, then chances of them infecting others is reduced.

The County veterinary director Dr. Benson Long'or today confirmed that the consignment of vet drugs and equipment for Kibish sub-county has already been approved and the distribution plan is available at the veterinary store in Lodwar. The vet officer in charge of Kibish, Dr. Kepha is yet to initiate the vaccination and treatment process at the sub-county.
