turkana billTurkana county ministry of water, Irrigation and agriculture together with the ministry of health and sanitation conducted a one day public participation exercise across the County.
This was to engage residents in all the seven sub-counties in discussing the proposed county water bill-dubbed Turkana county water and sanitation sector policy and Bill 2016, and to have them give their views on the proposed bill. The objective of the bill is to have a comprehensive legal framework in place that will establish and regulate water supply, sewerage and sanitation services in the county.
The bill also recognizes that every person in the county has the right to clean and safe water in adequate quantities and to reasonable standards of sanitation. Speaking In one of the forums in Turkana central, the chief officer water Joseph Namuar said the proposed bill if passed will enable his ministry to manage water in the County. He highlighted that the bill forms part of the implementation platforms for the county’s integrated development plan (CIDP).
The publishing of the water sector policy and Bill is funded by USAIDs agile and Harmonized Assistance for development Institution (AHADI) program in partnership with USAID K-RAPID, millennium Water Alliances and Turkana County Government.
