Gura ProjectGovernor Mutahi Kahiga on 14th February visited the Gura Hydro Power Project in Othaya. The mega project that is worth 1.7 billion shillings is saving tea farmers 30-40 million shillings which is spent annually on power bills. The Gura Hydro Power Project generates 6 KW. Four Tea Factories; Gathuthi, Gitugi, Iriani and Chinga use 2 KW of the power generated and the remaining 4 KW are sold to Kenya Power Company. The Gura Project is propelled by KTDA. Governor Kahiga says his government is committed to protecting the environment and warned those cutting down trees illegally against the vice as it leads to environmental degradation such as the drying up of rivers. The Nyeri County Government in partnership with the relevant stakeholders, is committed to improving the welfare of farmers.
