Kenyans from all walks of life led by the Deputy Governor Dr. Mathew Owili in the company of other top County officials, converged at the IMAX mega in Kisumu on Tuesday to grace the screening of the most anticipated America Superhero Film, The Black Panther. The film, which has been globally reputed the Marvel Studio’s best movie ever, features ‘the girl from the soil’, Lupita Nyong’o who plays Nakia in the film. Earlier while addressing the press, CEC for Tourism, Sports, Arts and Culture, Achie Alai said it was an honor for Kisumu County to be the first City to host the premiere of the movie before any other city in the world. “We want to thank Lupita Nyongo for showcasing our great county of Kisumu and putting us on the global map, “she said. As a warrior in the movie, Nakia has superhuman strength, speed, and agility traits and she is a member of the Dora Milaje, an all-female special force who protects the kingdom of Wakanda. After the first screening which ended at 9PM, the audience gave the film a critical acclaim, with praise for the direction, costume design, action sequences, soundtrack, and performances of the cast, and some ranked it one of the best contemporary films, noting its cultural impact. One of the audiences said, “We feel privileged because our own Lupita Nyong’o has made the feeling and the experience of the Hollywood come to our door step.”
The County Director of Tourism Mr. Thomas Ouko said the event was a success and additionally thanked all the partners for making it fruitful.
