Governor KinyanjuiNGPU- Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui today called for a good working relationship between governors and senators. "We are not asking them not to carryout their oversight work but be sensitive to the different roles senators and governors play," he said. He expressed hope that governors will be able to look at the Senate for legistlation that can help make devolution a success. Governor Kinyanjui was speaking during the official opening of the inaugural Senate leadership retreat at Sarova Woodlands Hotel in Nakuru. Present at the forum was Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa, Speaker of the Senate Kenneth Lusaka, Clerk of the Senate Jeremiah Nyegenye, Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen, Minority Leader James Orengo, Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika and other senators.Governor Kinyanjui said the retreat offers an opportunity to interrogate engagement between governors and the Senate. "There were mistakes done in the past by governors and as a country we cannot afford to repeat them; we need to correct them and be better," he said. CS Wamalwa said the Senate is protector of devolution. He said his ministry will work with the Senate to strengthen and formalise regional county blocks through legislation and policy. Speaker Lusaka said the Senate will start sitting in counties. He said senators will also work to ensure public funds in counties are not misappropriated.
