vihigaCommercialization of African Indigenous vegetables venture in Vihiga County is part of a broader agenda under the Vision 2030 flagship project that is also in line with the Vihiga County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) 2017-2022 and manifesto of Governor Wilber Ottichilo.
The County Government of Vihiga is piloting AIVs Production in partnership with the natural Products Industry (NPI) domiciled in the State Department of Culture and Heritage, and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). Under the tentative arrangement, the NPI is to provide certified seeds to the selected farmers and source for markets in collaboration with Vihiga County Department of Trade; JKUAT is to provide technical support and research on seed bulking; while the Department of Agriculture is to mobilize and train farmers on AIV production, Good Agricultural and Handling Practices (GAHP) in response to market demand.
