Nairobi County V CentersNairobi Governor Mike Sonko has urged the youth in Nairobi to enroll in vocational centers across the county to acquire skills that will enable them to be self-employed. Speaking when he officially opened the Dandora Green Light Vocational Training Center in Nairobi, Governor Sonko said the center will be crucial in the training of unemployed youth to acquire skills likes; motor vehicle technology, fashion design and dress making, beauty therapy and hair dressing, carpentry, electrical technology, building and construction and many others. “I encourage members of the Dandora Community and beyond to embrace Vocational Training Centres across the country. According to statistics, 70% of the unemployed in Kenya are the youth and a great number of the unemployed lack technical and vocational skills that are provided in the vocational training centers. If armed with skills, majority of unemployed will either become self-employed or secure employment in the public or private sector,” said Sonko during the event. Dandora Greenlight Vocational Centre is a product of collaboration between the Nairobi City County Government, Kenya Good Neighbours, Korea International Agency Motors and Korea International Cooperation Agency.
Meanwhile, the Governor stated that his administration is also working closely with foreign experts over the construction of the much awaited Dandora dumpsite recycling plant, which he says if completed will create employment for the youth in Nairobi.
