Mandera County Government held a co-operative leadership training on the 10th and 11th February 2018. The forum was officially opened by the Ag. Chief Officer trade Mr. Hassannoor Abdullahi. The training which was conducted by the department of Trade, Investments, Industrialization and Co-operative development at Red sea hotel in Mandera town, emphasized on vibrant cooperatives, need for proper records, compliance to Co-operative laws and regulation, adherence to meeting schedules , good governance practice and more focus on Co-operative as an investment tool in the county. It also stressed on inculcating the culture of self-reliance, good leadership management and capacity building so as to have them play role in poverty reduction by widening ownership, drive sustainable incomes and investment thinking.
Distinguishing critical success factor of any world class organizations is the quality of leadership, the changing world environment and the impact of technology demands that organizations acquire skills and attributes to manage the change through best practices leadership.
Among the objectives of the training were; enhance quality innovative co-operative leadership skills for progressive co-operative movement, improve awareness on the co-operative philosophy for sound decisions making and help achieve social transformation by improving the members participative role leading to poverty reduction for faster growth and development. On December last year, the department handed over Milk Value Addition Equipment to Mandera East Milk Sellers SACCO Societies, cooperatives owned entirely by women. While handing over the equipment, H.E Governor Ali Roba emphasized his government's commitment to the milk sector is informed by the role it plays in economically empowering women who are the major players in the promising industry.
